## Getting ashore

All ships dock at Lucayan Harbour on the west side of Grand Bahama. It is not near the hotels or the main activity points, so guests need a transfer. The terminal is a self-contained complex with shops and services. Plan your transfer with the ship or a pre-booked taxi.

## Watch-outs

Lucayan Harbour is isolated, so you cannot walk to the sights. Taxis are regulated, but confirm the fare before setting off. Heat and humidity are strong, and beaches have little shade. Keep an eye on the return time.

## Port Lucaya

[Port Lucaya Marketplace](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Port+Lucaya+Marketplace+Grand+Bahama) is the nearest waterfront shopping and dining area. It has craft stalls, restaurants and bars, and it is the easiest place to spend a few hours.

## Beaches

Gold Rock Beach and Xanadu Beach are the best-known beaches on the island, reached by taxi or tour. The sea is calm and shallow in places, which suits swimming and snorkelling.

## Day trips

The island's reef and wildlife are the main draw. Glass-bottom boat trips and snorkelling tours leave from the marina. Dolphin encounters and the Garden of the Groves are popular options.

## Food & shopping

Bahamian food includes conch fritters, cracked conch and peas and rice. Duty-free shopping is available, but check the rules for bringing items home. Markets sell local crafts.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the Bahamian dollar, which is at parity with the US dollar. US dollars are widely accepted. Cards are accepted in most places.

## Accessibility & mobility

The terminal and the marketplace are flat and step-accessible. Beaches have sand and steps, and boat trips involve gangways. Ask your operator for an accessible vehicle and a boat with step access.
