Getting ashore
Cruise ships dock at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay or at White Bay. Circular Quay is opposite the Opera House and right in the city. The walk from the ship to the terminal is short. Check your ship notice for the terminal. Circular Quay train station is a three-minute walk.
Watch-outs
From White Bay the walk into the city is long. Use a taxi or bus. Agree the fare before you leave. The sun can be strong on the waterfront. The first taxis may be for tours. Walk further for a city ride.
Getting into the city
From Circular Quay, walk out of the terminal into the city. The path is short and mostly flat. Bus 431 stops nearby. The train station is a three-minute walk. Taxis wait on George Street if you prefer. A printable map is available from the visitor center.
Taxis & ride apps
Taxis line up on George Street in front of the terminal. A short ride into the city center is about A$15. Ride apps work in Sydney. Name the Overseas Passenger Terminal for the return. The rank is outside the terminal.
What to do nearby
Walk to the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Circular Quay has ferries and shops. The Rocks is a short walk. This area is easy on foot and needs no ticket. You can see the harbor without a tour.
Going further
The airport is a train ride from Circular Quay. Bondi Beach is further by bus. These take time. Book if you want a guided visit. Stay near Circular Quay if the ship has a short stay.
Food & shopping
Circular Quay and The Rocks have cafes and shops. Duty-free is available. Carry small bills. Ask the price if no menu is posted. Many places take cards.
Opening times & connectivity
Shops open about 9 to 5. English is spoken. WiFi is common in cafes. Save a map of Circular Quay offline. Ask staff for the emergency number.
Accessibility & mobility
Tell the cruise line before you sail if you need a wheelchair. The Port Authority says the line arranges an escort through the terminal and at boarding. Both terminals use an elevated gangway. That is not a promise of a flat walk into The Rocks, or of any walking route from White Bay. Destination NSW lists Wheelchair Book & Ride through Service NSW when you need an accessible taxi. Ask for it rather than assuming the first car at the rank can take a chair.
