Getting ashore

Ships dock at Victoria Quay, an easy walk from the town centre and the railway station. Taxis wait at the quay.

Watch-outs

Fremantle is a relaxed port town, and the sun is strong. The harbour can be windy. Some shops close on Sundays.

Fremantle

The town has the Fremantle Markets, the Cappuccino Strip of cafés and the old Fremantle Prison, a UNESCO site, with guided tours.

Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is a short ferry trip offshore, with beaches, snorkelling and the quokkas, small marsupials found only in the area.

Perth

Perth is about 30 minutes by train, with the Swan River foreshore, Kings Park and the city’s markets.

Food & shopping

Western Australian food includes fresh seafood, wines from the Margaret River and fresh produce. Cafés on the strip are the easiest choice.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the Australian dollar. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. ATMs are in the town.

Accessibility & mobility

The quay and the town are flat. The prison has steps and historic buildings. Ferries have boarding steps. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
