## Getting ashore

The ship berths right beside Oranjestad, and up to five ships can tie up at once. The terminal is modern, with souvenir and clothing shops, toilets and a tourist information centre. The town's shops, bars and restaurants are about a kilometre away, and a free hop-on, hop-off trolley loops the main shopping areas.

## For beach lovers

This is Aruba's strength. Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are the two most popular, both about 20 minutes by taxi, with soft white sand. Snorkelling is best on the west coast, and boat trips leave from the marina.

## For walkers and architecture fans

Oranjestad is small and easy to walk. The Dutch colonial buildings are painted in bright colours, and the harbour is the heart of the town. Fort Zoutman and the Willem III Tower sit by the water, and the Aruba Museum covers the island's history.

## For nature and outdoor fans

Arikok National Park covers much of the interior, with cacti, caves and rock formations. Most visitors see it on an off-road tour, since the rougher tracks need a four-wheel drive. Ask for a vehicle with step access if you need one.

## For shoppers

Duty-free shopping is strongest in town, but the main streets cost more than the rest of the island. A quick price check in a second shop is worth doing before you buy anything expensive.

## For eaters and drinkers

Aruban food mixes Dutch, Caribbean and Latin influences. Keshi yena, a cheese-filled dish, is the local classic, and fresh seafood is widely served.

## Getting around and money

Taxis have set rates, so check the fare board or agree the price before you get in. The currency is the Aruban florin. US dollars and cards are widely accepted, and ATMs are common in town.

## Walking guide: the old town

Start at the terminal and walk into town, about a kilometre. Follow the waterfront to Fort Zoutman and the Willem III Tower by the harbour, then wander the colourful Dutch colonial streets towards the shops. The Aruba Museum is a good stop for the island's history. Return by the trolley, or walk back the way you came. The route is flat, and the trolley is accessible.

## Accessibility & mobility

The terminal and the town are flat and step-free, and the trolley is accessible. Beaches involve soft sand, which is hard for wheelchairs. Off-road tours in the national park are rough, so ask about vehicles with step access before booking.
